R.I.P http://uptime-project.net
end: 2007.03.1
Dear Uptime-Community, After the last very successful 5 years with about 1.7 million data records and more than 20000 active users, we would like to say "thank you" to everyone who helped the project grow to what it is right now. +++ We are very sad to say it, but we decided to close down the Uptime-Project on the 1st of March 2007. +++ Surely this wasn't an easy decision because of all the time we invested in the project but we don't have enough time to keep the site alive. Another problem is, and always was, the increasing costs for servers and traffic. (Thanks to our sponsors!) Please shut down all the uptime-clients you're running because we can't keep the domain name forever and we don't want somebody to get his hands on the user data the clients are sending. Why don't we give away the project for free and let somebody else run it? That question is easy to answer. With more than 20000 users, there is a lot of user data in our database (for example the email-addresses). We don't want somebody to get his hands on this data to maintain the user.s privacy. Again, thank your very much for competing in the Uptime-Project! Sincerely the Uptime-Project staff best uptimes per OS + mine:

Light GUI editor for WM
0. introduction
Small and light Window Managers like PekWM Openbox Fluxbox and FVWM
have very little memory footprint, they are light and fast as fuck and can
look outstanding at the same time, Fluxbox for example:
There are meny editors to choose from but which are light and fast? Lets test several popular GTK2/QT editors. These will be geany gvim scite gedit and kate. 1. geany
site:
desc:
Geany is a text editor using the GTK2 toolkit with
basic features of an integrated development environment. It was developed
to provide a small and fast IDE, which has only a few dependencies from
other packages. It supports many filetypes and has some nice features.
For more details see About.

2. scite
site:
desc:
SciTE is a SCIntilla based Text Editor. Originally built to
demonstrate Scintilla, it has grown to be a generally useful editor
with facilities for building and running programs. It is best used
for jobs with simple configurations - I use it for building test and
demonstration programs as well as SciTE and Scintilla, themselves.

3. gvim
site:
desc:
Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to enable
efficient text editing. It is an improved version of the vi editor
distributed with most UNIX systems.
Vim is often called a "programmer's editor," and so useful for programming that many consider it an entire IDE. It's not just for programmers, though. Vim is perfect for all kinds of text editing, from composing email to editing configuration files. shot: resources: VSZ RSS TIME COMMAND 27672 15356 0:03.04 gvim (vim) good/bad:
4. gedit
site:
desc:
Gedit is the official text editor of the GNOME desktop
environment. While aiming at simplicity and ease of use, gedit is a
powerful general purpose text editor.
Gedit features also a flexible plugin system which can be used to dynamically add new advanced features to gedit itself. See the plugins page for more info on the existing plugins. shot: resources: VSZ RSS TIME COMMAND 36636 23536 0:05.41 gedit good/bad:
5. kate
site:
desc:
Kate is a multi document editor, based on a rewritten version
of the kwrite editing widget of KDE, offering all the features of
that plus a bunch of its own. Kate has been been moved to the
kdebase package, and is a built-in part of your favorite desktop
since release 2.2.

6. summary
So in the end of this little comparassion the winners are geany and
gvim and eventually scite. Default Gnome editor gedit
offers less then the winners and uses more resources at the same time.
the worst of all is KDE's featured kate editor. with all its dependencies and bloat I doubt why anybody is using it. Feel free to comment this little article: vermaden [AT] interia [DOT] pl.
